GMO LABELING OF BROWNIE BRITTLE'S PRODUCTS

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates human and animal foods derived from plants including those that are commonly referred to as Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) or as Bioengineered (BE).

Bioengineered food is the term that Congress used to describe certain types of GMOs when they passed the National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard. The Standard defines bioengineered foods as those that contain detectable genetic material that has been modified through certain lab techniques and cannot be created through conventional breeding or found in nature. The Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) created the List of Bioengineered Foods to identify crops or foods available in bioengineered form throughout the world. BE crops and foods include but are not limited to canola, corn, soybean, and sugar beet. Manufacturers can still source non-GMO varieties of the BE crops on this list.

Starting in January 2022, food manufacturers and certain retailers are required to disclose when they use detectable amounts of BE crops or foods. Under the National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard, Brownie Brittle branded products do contain a bioengineered food ingredient.
